At The Vein Doctor, Dr. Greenberg works with patients that suffer from all types of skin conditions produced by the appearance of stressed and insufficient veins. These vein conditions can range from the smallest burst of capillaries and spider veins, to large and unsightly varicose veins. Some of these vein conditions are more of a cosmetic issue, while others can be a combination of physical discomfort and aesthetic appearance. We treat all types of conditions, and are sensitive to your needs no matter the reason.

In the case of rosacea, patients come to us with the desire to reduce the severity of this skin condition, since it’s found mainly in facial tissues that are visible for the world to see. Dr. Greenberg wants to help patients maintain a healthy and pleasant glow by minimizing the appearance and discomfort produced by rosacea. We know that your appearance is important to you, and we offer options to help you improve your skin without pain or weeks of recovery.

What is rosacea?

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that causes redness of the face. It affects about 14 million Americans, mostly adults with fair skin between the ages of 30 and 60. It is most common in women, and often includes small, red, pus-filled bumps or pustules that are sometimes mistaken for acne. The cause of rosacea remains unknown and tends to be progressive when left untreated, growing worse over time. It is not life-threatening, but it can affect your appearance and self-esteem, which for many is a daily struggle. Rosacea can become bothersome, even causing patients to develop vision problems, and is often disruptive to their lifestyle, depending on how painful the condition becomes.

Areas Rosacea Appears:

  • Nose
  • Chin
  • Cheeks
  • Forehead
  • Chest
  • Scalp
  • Ears

Some patients may not be aware they have rosacea until we perform a detailed skin care analysis, since the condition often reveals itself later in life. While there are no obvious reasons why many people experience rosacea, overexposure to the sun can cause further inflammation of already sensitive skin as this condition develops, so a daily nourishing skin care regimen that includes sunblock is recommended.

Symptoms of Rosacea Include:

  • Flush, red skin
  • Change in skin texture (thickness and pore size)
  • Pus-filled blemishes
  • Bumpy, red skin
  • Red-rimmed eyes
  • Cluster of visible red blood vessels
  • Dry, rough and red skin
  • Sensitive skin that burns easily
  • Swollen skin
  • Unnaturally oily skin
  • Watery, itchy and swollen eyes

How do we treat rosacea at The Vein Doctor?

At The Vein Doctor, we utilize Lumenis, a technology that combines two energies – bipolar RF and optical light – to eliminate the visible symptoms of this condition. Most people experience no side effects at all, though a few exhibit some short-term local reddening of the surrounding skin. A combination of radiofrequency and visible light allows us to treat sensitive skin without further damaging cells, and we’re able to focus this light energy on pigmented vessels. RF and visible light are attracted to these overactive blood vessels and are able to pass through the skin without damaging the surface layer. Once this energy warms these vessels, growth factors and other proteins can metabolize them, and patients will begin to see a gradual change.

Treatments require no recovery time, but a series of applications are needed to see a difference in the skin with reduced redness over the next few months as treatments progress. Each treatment is four to six weeks apart, and most patients need four to six sessions. During your skin care assessment, Dr. Greenberg will first diagnose rosacea, prescribe a skin care regimen, and recommend our Lumenis light therapy. It’s also important to check with your insurance company or have our medical staff assist you in finding out if your insurance covers rosacea treatments, as that may be helpful.

We can minimize the appearance of red, blotchy skin by prescribing antibiotics in addition to these sensitive laser treatments with Lumenis by Syneron. Lumenis can also revitalize the skin and call on natural rejuvenation mechanisms to refresh tired skin cells so you look younger in the process.
