VenaCure EVLT™ for Varicose Veins

Varicose veins can be uncomfortable and cause you to feel self-conscious, depending on their appearance and location on your body. In the past, varicose veins were removed using invasive surgical procedures that required weeks of downtime and discomfort. These options for varicose vein removal were known as vein stripping, referred to as vein ligation (or phlebectomy), where the physician surgically extract the varicose vein. However, for most patients, these vein ligation procedures were never a guarantee that these varicose veins would be removed permanently. As a matter of fact, many varicose veins returned after some time.

Endovenous laser treatment technology has changed the way we treat varicose veins in a way that is beneficial for the patient and allows physicians to treat this condition in a small clinical setting, as opposed to a hospital. Patients feel more comfortable in this treatment setting and can reduce medical costs at the same time. Dr. Greenberg takes great care to provide you with the most patient-focused treatments that maximize comfort, reduce recovery time and provide long-lasting results.

In the case of varicose vein therapy and removal, endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) using the VenaCure EVLT™ system encompasses all of these benefits into the Vein Doctor’s all-in-one solution. We will explain the ins and outs of this treatment to help you determine whether or not to schedule your consultation for EVLT.

What is EVLT and how is it different using VenaCure?

EVLT™ is a quick and minimally invasive laser procedure that leaves no scar, has no recovery time, and is a relatively pain-free treatment, performed under local anesthesia in Dr. Greenberg’s treatment room. The treatment itself can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the depth of treatment. Consultation for EVLT with VenaCure EVLT™ initially involves both a physical and an ultrasound-assisted examination to map the vein to be treated. Dr. Greenberg was chosen by Angiodynamics to train physicians nationwide in this specific EVLT procedure.

The VenaCure EVLT™ system utilizes 1470 and 810nm wavelengths to endovenously (within the vein) deliver laser treatments through a gold and glass tipped fiber that Dr. Greenberg will insert through a single entry point into the saphenous vein. This saphenous vein is located toward the interior of the thigh and can be accessed just above or below your knee, depending on where Dr. Greenberg finds the best point of entry. Equipped with the gold and glass-welded tip, the VenaCure EVLT™ system protects any other tissues surrounding the treatment area within the vein, which is a step above other laser treatments that are not designed to focus at this level of detail. VenaCure EVLT™ uses ultrasound-assisted guidance as the laser fiber is inserted into the vein and can be accurately followed throughout the procedure.

No Downtime!

As the fiber is inserted into the highest point of the saphenous vein, Dr. Greenberg applies laser heat energy to the vein wall as he slowly pulls the fiber downward causing the vein walls to collapse and finally close off the vein. When the vein is closed off with laser heat energy, the body can begin to metabolize the vein so that it no longer causes discomfort or allows blood flow to recreate those particular varicose veins. Our patients at The Vein Doctor do not feel anything other than the quick application of anesthetic, and once they are done with this minimally invasive vein therapy, can get back to their usual activities without pain.

During your consultation for varicose vein care, Dr. Greenberg will always perform a detailed vein assessment to diagnose any particular vein conditions or concerns. To enjoy lifelong heart health and a comfortable lifestyle, vein assessments are a necessary event. At The Vein Doctor, we educate our patients on the importance of proactive vein care, and provide a list of preventative treatments that can help you maintain healthy veins.
